The metaphor “lazy mum” came to me many years ago during the night while I was breastfeeding my son. Don’t get me wrong, breastfeeding was no easy feat – and neither is formula feeding, pumping, mixed feeding, or any other version of keeping a tiny human alive. I did it because I was too lazy to sterilise bottles at 3am!
As a South African expat family, we don’t have family around to help us. With no support this can sometimes feel lonely and overwhelming. The transition from thinking about myself to thinking about my family and household was a massive adjustment. Over the years I began to realise that I often try to take the same approach that I use with my corporate job on repetitive long-winded tasks to tackling the many time-consuming tasks of being a mum. I try to “work smart, not hard”. Being a mum is the opposite of “lazy”. We are an amazing breed who are often just trying to keep the boat afloat. It can sometimes even feel like you’re drowning in the “invisible” work load.
I wanted to start this blog to share my ideas, shortcuts and tips that I use to make life easier, save some time and lift the mental load a bit. If you are feeling overwhelmed, burnt out, tired or mentally fatigued from mum life then this blog is for you. Or, if you are a busy working mum that’s just trying to find a little more time for yourself then this blog is for you too. I’m planning to cover topics such as meal planning, holiday planning, party planning, gift guides and any other topics that may hopefully be helpful for you. Think of me as someone in your village š
